Mr. FULTON:

I should like to ask some questions respecting the extension of this act to British Columbia. Just for the information of the minister and of the committee, I should like to review what I was going to describe as changes in policy which have taken place thus

far. This was urged as a specific measure by myself and by others in 1946.

That could be discussed under item 36, the British Columbia item.

The DEPUTY CHAIRMAN:

Order. This

item deals with:

Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act and water storage (does not include the costs of survey and engineering work on the Medicine Hat irrigation and Red Deer diversion projects in Alberta and the South Saskatchewan river project in Saskatchewan, which costs are to be made available from the item of $1,000,000, No. 409, Department of Reconstruction and Supply).

Mr. FULTON:

This item deals with the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act. We have been urging for some years that it be extended to British Columbia. The minister said this afternoon he would prefer that we delay discussion until we reached the P.F.R.A. item.

Mr. FULTON:

Yes, item 36. But that deals only with specific projects in British Columbia. It refers to isolated projects.

But this item does not deal with British Columbia at all.

Mr. FULTON:

But it does deal with the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act.

Mr. GARDINER:

And that does not apply to British Columbia. In the discussion of the British Columbia item we can discuss everything that can be done in that province under that item. We cannot have prairie farm rehabilitation in British Columbia. You can have something done in the mountains, or in some other place, but it would not be prairie farm rehabilitation.
