Mr. GILLIS:

Direct and indirect; that is their total debt. Our population is 11,420,084 while that of New Zealand is 1,640,000. The same figures apply in working out both direct and indirect debts. Our direct per capita debt works out at $690 and our indirect at $807. In New Zealand it is $840.

The debt figures given by the hon. member for New Westminster were $680 per capita in Canada, and $1,010 in New Zealand. These figures are not borne out by the search I have made.
