Mr. CRUICKSHANK:

No, Mr. Chairman. That is not to be the title, as I understood it. It is six o'clock, Mr. Chairman.

Mr. MITCHELL:

I suggest that we carry on until we finish. The house is under tremendous pressure, and so are the ministers. I think we should go on.

Mr. CRERAR:

I would appeal to the

hon. member. We are on the last section of the bill; let us try to finish it to-night and not call it six o'clock. We might carry on for a few minutes.

Mr. CRUICKSHANK:

Veiy well; I withdraw my suggestion. But this is a most important bill, and I do not think it should be rushed. Not two members in this chamber can remember the title as it was read. Let us know what we are doing.

Mr. MITCHELL:

At the moment it means merchant seamen and civilian fire fighters who have been called up. I know what is bothering my hon. friend. He thinks it refers to industry, but he can take it from me that it has no connection whatever with industry.

Do you not think it would be well to include somewhere in the title words to this effect, "to reinstate individuals who were previously employed, and who enlisted for service"?

Mr. GILLIS:

Would these "other designated persons" include men who enlisted but who were taken from the army and placed in other employment, by virtue of their techncial training? Under the bill as it now stands I do not think they have any protection.
