Pierre-François Casgrain (Secretary of State of Canada)

Liberal

Mr. CASGRAIN:

This question calls for a great deal of information which is not on file in the various departments of the government. I am informed also that if the question is to be answered it will entail a tremendous amount of work, because each employee in

the various branches of the service throughout Canada will have to be interviewed in order to get part of the information requested.

I suggest that the question be dropped.

National Government

Mr. HANSON (York-Sunbury):

The Minister says, if I understand him correctly, that there is no such thing as a joint swine committee. He should know. But the evidence is against him. If he will turn to page 933 of Hansard for February 24. just a week ago to-day. he will find that that point arose in connection with a question asked by the

Questions

hon. member for York East (Mr. McGregor) which had to do with the grading of hogs. In a reply brought down by the minister himself there is a distinct reference to "the joint swine committee". I refer to answer No. 8, which states in part:

In 1922 the premium on the select bacon grade was established by agreement between the department and the joint swine committee, the membership of which includes representatives of various producers organizations.
