Mr. MACDONALD (Brantford City):

The amendment says: We will force the people to give us their money. The hon. member is supporting that. Yet at the same time he says: I do not agree with taking money away from the people.

Mr. BLACKMORE:

I can understand why the hon. member cannot get this straight because he did not even get the resolution straight, and for that of course there was some excuse because he did not have a chance to read it but just heard it read from the chair. The amendment simply requires loans without interest, which is a long way from taking money away from the people.

No; they would be required to lend it without interest.

Mr. MACDONALD (Brantford City):

Is that not compulsory, if a person is required to lend it without interest?

Exactly, but is not taking your boy to go to war compulsory?

Mr. MacINNIS:

The hon. member is, however, arguing against the other proposal.
