DAIRY INDUSTRY ACT

AMENDMENT TO PROVIDE FOR CONSTITUTION OF ADVISORY COMMITTEE

Hon. J. G. GARDINER (Minister of Agriculture) moved that the house go into committee at the next sitting to consider the following proposed resolution. That it is expedient to amend the Dairy Industry Act to authorize the minister to constitute an advisory committee to advise him on matters affecting the dairy industry and to authorize the payment of the actual reasonable travelling or other expenses of the personnel of such committee. He said: Mr. Speaker, it has been suggested by the dairy council that it would be helpful if an advisory committee, composed of nominees of the dairy interests and perhaps one or two of the officials of the department, 7X492-165^ particularly the commissioner of the dairy branch, were set up in order to advise in connection with matters having to do with the dairy industry. That advice will be shared in both directions, some of it going to the department through the minister and some of it to the industry itself, in relation to production of surpluses and the ridding of the industry of surpluses from time to time, particularly as affecting butter and cheese. It will be a one-section bill, which will legalize the appointment of such a committee.
