Mr. McLEAN (Melfort):

Mr. Speaker, on a question of privilege, I have said that there is not the slightest truth in the assertion. The hon. member has referred to his courtesy. On this matter no hon. member of the house needs the courtesy of the hon. gentleman, because it is a matter of right. Withdraw.

Mr. McLEAN (Melfort):

Surely the hon. member knows better-that on a question of privilege, on a matter within my knowledge, he must withdraw his published presumption. I was one who talked on that occasion. I did not vote; I addressed the meeting by invitation.

Mr. McLEAN (Melfort):

On a question of privilege, the hon. member for Rosetown-Biggar read a statement which was in the paper and which was absolutely correct, and then he added of his own volition these words, " I presume that was the vote of the member for Melfort "-who did not vote on that occasion. What I am asking him to do is to withdraw his presumption; that is all.

Mr. COLDWELL:

That is different. The statement I read from the paper, then, is correct. I assume therefore that the gentleman remained silent, and silence gives consent. Therefore in effect he voted for the resolution.

Mr. COLDWELL:

On September 31 a meeting was held at Saskatoon to which the Hon. J. G. Gardiner and other western members were invited. This was the only meeting which I attended. I arrived in Saskatoon from the east on September 21, and I went to the meeting at the invitation of the citizens' committee which organized it. I might say that I went because the Minister of Agriculture was to be there. He had other engagements and was not able to attend.
