Hugh Alexander Stewart
Conservative (1867-1942)
Mr. STEWART:
Will the minister tell the committee the amount of the main estimates for public works this year, and the amount in the main and supplementary estimates of last year?
Mr. STEWART:
Will the minister tell the committee the amount of the main estimates for public works this year, and the amount in the main and supplementary estimates of last year?
Mr. CARDIN:
The main estimates amount to $13,411,000.
Mr. STEWART:
That is for this current
year?
Mr. CARDIN:
Yes.
Mr. STEWART:
What about last year?
Mr. CARDIN:
Last year it was $14,530,320 in the main estimates, and in the supplementary estimates for the year 1935-36 the amount was $2,906,150. This gives a total of $17,436,470, outside the Public Works Construction Act. Under that act the amount was $7,892,243.
Mr. STEWART:
I take it that would
make the $24,000,000 provided last year in the main and supplementary estimates and the Public Works Construction Act.
Mr. CARDIN:
Yes.
Mr. STEWART:
For work .to be undertaken by the Department of Public Works?
Mr. CARDIN:
I must correct a statement I made a moment ago. The amount of about $7,000,000 is for expenditures under the Public Works Construction Act.
Mr. STEWART:
Could the minister tell
the committee in round figures the amount of the vote under the Supplementary Public Works Construction Act, 1936, that was allocated to the Department of Public Works? I am trying to get tihe total amount of expenditures through the Department of Public Works last year. In the main and supplementary estimates I take it that .the amount was about $17,000,000, and under the Supplementary Public Works Construction Act a certain amount was assigned to that department; I have forgotten how much.
Mr. CARDIN:
I am informed that it
was $15,000,000 in 1936 and $26,000,000 in 1934.
Mr. STEWART:
Does the minister refer
to the total of all?
Mr. CARDIN:
Yes; I am informed that
the total was $26,000,000 in 1934 and $15,000,000 in 1935.
IMr. Cardin.]
Mr. STEWART:
That $26,000,000 does
not include the amount under the Public Works Construction Act, 1934?
Mr. CARDIN:
Yes.
Mr. STEWART:
The amount must refer
to expenditures.
Mr. CARDIN,- No, that is the Public Works Construction Act.
Mr. STEWART:
It must be expenditures.
Mr. CARDIN:
I am informed that this
is the share received by the Department of Public Works under the Public Works Construction Act.
Mr. STEWART:
Could the minister give
me the total for 1934? I do not want details. I should like the figure to include everything, main and supplementary estimates, and the Public Works Construction Act.
