Mr. CARDIN:
I may say that the staff we had under the Public Works Construction Acts of 1934 and 1935 were discharged on March 31, and this item provides for the staff that will be necessary to carry on these undertakings.
Mr. STEWART:
Under what item was the staff paid the year before?
Mr. CARDIN:
It was paid from the general items, Nos. 9 and 10.
Mr. STEWART:
What were the amounts of those items?
Mr. CARDIN:
They amounted to $2,400,000 and $4,000,000.
Mr. STEWART:
Those were comprehensive items, not just for the staff.
Mr. CARDIN:
I am informed that they were general items, including the staff, and that they covered both harbours and rivers and public buildings.
Mr. STEWART:
This is the item intended for harbours and rivers?
