Richard Bedford Bennett (Prime Minister; Minister of Finance and Receiver General; President of the Privy Council; Secretary of State for External Affairs)

Conservative (1867-1942)

Mr. BENNETT:

But no action was taken, and no estimate made, and to bring down papers that are confidential in that sense before action is taken is to destroy the usefulness of the engineers who make the reports, in my judgment. No private enterprise could carry on business in that way, and I do not see how a government can.

Pierre-François Casgrain (Whip of the Liberal Party)

Mr. CASGRAIN:

In all these motions

standing in my name I am asking for the correspondence or documents or reports regarding work which it was contemplated doing at these various places. I want to know just at what stage the matter stands in each case. That information is necessary, and as the member representing the county I think I have the right to ask for the production of these papers.
