LIB

Hewitt Bostock (Speaker of the Senate)

Liberal

Mr. SPEAKER:

It is moved by Mr. Church (for Mr. Garland, Carleton), that Bill No. 84 (letter O of the senate), for the relief of Winifred Osborne Gimblett, be now read a third time.

There is an amendment to the motion in the name of the hon. member for Winnipeg North Centre (Mr. Woodsworth). I do not see him in his seat, and therefore I will not put the amendment. The mover of the amendment must be here.

Mr. HEAPS:

I believe on previous occasions when the mover of a motion or an amendment was not in his place, some other member was allowed to act in his behalf.

Mr. SPEAKER:

Not in the case of an amendment of which notice has been given. This amendment stands in the name of the hon. member who has moved it. He is not in the house, and therefore the chair must ignore the amendment. The question is on the third reading of the bill. Is it the pleasure of the house to adopt the motion?

Mr. ELLIOTT:

It is proposed to dredge a channel 200 feet wide by approximately 400 feet long to a depth of 18 feet, involving the removal of 31,750 cubic yards scow measure of class "B" material. The work has been urged by the resident engineer, and is necessary to enable boats to reach the wharf loaded with hay and general farm products, which at the present time is done with great difficulty owing to the shallow water.
