This is just to meet the requirements as they arise.
Item agreed to. Winnipeg-Fort Osborne barracks-purchase and alter-1 ations of Red Cross hut, $12,000.
Mr. GARDINER:
What responsibility has the government to provide for the Red Cross hut? Is this matter under control of the government?
Mr. COPP:
It is being used for militia
purposes as a part of the Tuxedo barracks and has been taken over by the department. The hut will cost $10,000 and the alterations to the hut, $2,000. It is rented by the Department of National Defence.
Item agreed to. Winnipeg-government's share of cost of high pressure fire protection service, $19,101.61.

Who has charge of this? Is it a city plant?
Mr. OOPP:
This amount of $19,000 is to provide for the payment of the government's share of the cost of maintaining the high pressure fire protection service in the city of Winnipeg.

It is a city plant?
Mr. COPP:
Yes.
Item agreed to. Edmonton-public building, addition to site, $30,000.

Will you explain where this site is situated?
Mr. COPP:
This is a property adjoining the present post office, and this amount is required for the purchase of land to enlarge the post office building.

Is it in east or west Edmonton?
Mr. COPP:
East Edmonton.
Mr. GARLAND (Bow River):
Is there a building oni the property or is it vacant?
Mr. STEWART (Argenteuil):
There is a small building on it used as a real estate office.
Mr. GARDINER:
What are they going to do with that hole in the ground in Calgary supposed to be a post office site?
Mr. COPP:
It is not the intention to build there at the present time. I have no memorandum before ime, and I do not know what they are going to do with that hole.

That hole has been, there a long time, and I understand! the olid building was taken down, and they are moving the stones from one place to another, to give people work. Is anything going to be done to fill up that hole or do anything with it?
