Wilfrid Bruno Nantel (Minister of Inland Revenue)
Conservative (1867-1942)
Mr. NANTEL:
All right.
Subtopic: THOMAS LEGARE,
Mr. NANTEL:
All right.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
I would like to know from the minister what Government employees have been dismissed in the county of Montcalm?
Mr. NANTEL:
I do not see any.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
And in the county of Joliette?
Mr. NANTEL:
Henri Locas, of Joliette, excise officer.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
He is from St. Lin.
Mr. NANTEL:
Medard Forest, of l'Epi-phanie, M. Granger and J. H. Lafortune, of St. Jacques. These officers are of the Joliette division.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
What crime had they committed?
Mr. NANTEL:
Political partisanship.
Messrs. Louis L. Bazinet, C. Bourgeois, T. Rivet and L. P. Labelle, (dismissed for embezzlement), and lastly, Paul Ethier, of L'Assomption. I see no others.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
Are there any left for dismissal? Can you tell me who has taken Mr. Bazinet's place?
Mr. NANTEL:
He has been replaced by Mr. Lavallee, former legislative councillor.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
How old is he?
Mr. NANTEL:
I do not know. I found him quite capable of doing the work.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
Is he related to a member of this House?
Mr. NANTEL:
Not that I know of.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
Who recommended
him?
Mr. NANTEL:
I believe it was the member for that county. In any case, I personally am well acquainted with Mr. Lavallee.
Mr. BLONDIN:
I suggest that the hon. member address the Chair.
Mr. LAFORTUNE:
Well, Mr. Chairman, will you kindly request the minister to give me an answer and state who recommended Mr. Lavallee?
Mr. NANTEL:
Offhand I cannot say; but he applied to me direct.
