Sir WILFRID LAURIER.

No, it means that your Bill stands over, that the other Bills will be proceeded with and I will move on Thursday that on Friday, instead of having an hour, we will take the whole night if necessary. We shall have the whole Order Paper exhausted before we take up other business. Your Bill will have its place.

I will have to agree to it, of course, but I cannot help but think that it is unfair to me because notwithstanding that we may have the whole of Friday night it must be remembered that this is a contentious Bill. If hon. gentlemen will say that they will allow this Bill to go to a vote within an hour-

Perhaps that is all the worse for me. If you want to delay the Canada Life Bill you will perhaps delay my Bill. '

Well, I do not know about that. Unless the leader of the House insists upon his view I would be rather inclined to hold to the position that I now occupy.

I do not insist on my view. My hon. friend may take his choice. I will move that on Friday night we go through with private Bills before we take up any other matter.

Mr. HENDERSON.

I might remind the right hon. First Minister that as it was understood that the Canada Life Bill was to go through before the end of this week it may not be well to put anything in its way because I apprehend that there will be a very extended discussion on that Bill yet, and if the hon. gentleman's Bill comes before it it may mean that we will be sitting here until Sunday morning.

It has been agreed that we shall have a legitimate discussion and nothing else and that the sense of the House shall be taken thereafter.

I can assure the right hon. gentleman that the discussion will be perfectly legitimate. We gave up a night on the understanding that we would have an opportunity again. We have certain views to present and we do not want to be restricted but we are quite willing to be restricted within the arrangement that the Bill was to go through before the end of the week.

I assume that if the discussion upon this Bill and upon the other is legitimate they will be disposed of one way or the other long before Sunday morning.

I do not think there has been such a case as this before the House

for many years. Here is the hon. gentleman pressing a Bill that has not been printed and distributed among the members.
